portland news

City Manager Jon Jennings is pleased to announce he has selected Anne McGuire to serve as the new Assistant City Manager for the City of Portland. The City began a search process for the position earlier this spring following the resignation of the prior assistant manager. Ms. McGuire is a progress-driven professional with an extensive background in government and the private sector. She is an attorney with a strong public policy and political background having advised officials in the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives.

“Anne has held multiple roles in government and business, handling tasks very similar to the work that she will be assisting me with here in Portland,” said City Manager Jon Jennings. “She’s an effective communicator, critical thinker and problem solver, and is skilled at interdepartmental matters. I know her drive, knowledge, and experience will help us achieve our goals.”

“I’m excited to bring my experience to Portland and become part of this great community,” said Anne McGuire.

Ms. McGuire most recently worked for Berger Hirschberg Strategies in New York City as a Senior Advisor. Her public sector experience includes roles in the U.S. Senate for Minority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Whip Richard Durbin, The White House during the Clinton Administration, and in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressman Phil Sharp. Her private sector experience includes works for Witt O’Brien’s, LLC, Equilibrium Capital Group, LLC, Rock Creek Group, O’Melveny & Myers, LLP, and Quinn Gillespie & Associates, LLC.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University, and her law degree from Georgetown University.

She will earn $140,980 annually and begin work on August 30, 2021.
