Masking in Indoor Places Recommended When County Reaches Substantial Community Transmission

The U.S. and Maine CDC recommends everyone wear masks when inside in public regardless of vaccination status when there is substantial or high community transmission of COVID-19 in your county. To check the current status for Portland (Cumberland County), visit maine.gov/covid19 (link below).

The City of Portland first alerted the public to the fact that Cumberland County reached substantial community transmission of COVID-19 on August 5, 2021.

As of August 23, Cumberland County is now listed as moderate. County community transmission levels are expected to change daily, so we ask that you please remain aware of current recommendations by visiting the CDC’s site (link below), reading/watching the news, following the requirements of private establishments, and when in doubt, masking up.
