DPW Sewer Investigation on Free Street

traffic alert 2021

Starting on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, City of Portland Department of Public Works contractor, Vortex Companies, will begin a sewer investigation on Free Street between Center Street and Congress Street; the work is scheduled to last for two days. This investigation is being completed as part of the City’s long term effort to separate stormwater in Free and Center Street from the combined sewer systems, and is part of the City’s on-going efforts to reduce combined sewer overflows into Casco Bay.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR MOTORISTS:  The City’s contractor, Vortex Companies, will begin work at 7am on Tuesday January 11 at the Free Street/Center Street intersection. The work will gradually move up Free Street towards Congress Street between 7am and 5pm on Tuesday 1/11 and Wednesday 1/12. The contractor will be using flaggers and police officers to manage traffic around the work zone. Motorists should expect some minor delays driving through the work zone. Parking will be restricted on the south side of Free Street during these two days, from 7am to 5pm, in order to move traffic around the work zone.

SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTE, IF POSSIBLE, TO AVOID DELAYS

Motorists are asked, if possible, to seek alternate routes into and around this area during this time period.
