On Sunday, July 19, 2020, Portland Fire Chief Keith Gautreau announced that the Portland Fire Department promoted Lieutenant Angela Calvo to Division Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Training. Calvo is the first woman to hold a Chief Officer rank in the Department’s 252 year history. Division Chief Calvo had been filling the role as Interim Division Chief of EMS & Training since September 1, 2019.
Division Chief Calvo joined the Portland Fire Department on October 23, 2000 and was promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant on June 12, 2016. As the Division Chief of EMS and Training, Chief Calvo will be responsible for all aspects of the Department’s Emergency Medical Services, which makes up approximately 75% of all emergency responses.
Division Chief Calvo stated, “It is an honor and privilege to accept the position of Division Fire Chief of EMS and Training. I feel extremely fortunate to serve alongside 224 professional men and women, who care immensely about the citizens and visitors of Portland, and the quality and efficiency of their work, which is second to none. Every accomplishment in this organization is a product of dedication and teamwork, and I could not be more proud to be a part of this incredible team. It is an exciting time to be a part of the Portland Fire Department.”
