Public Health Department Releases Inaugural Health of Portland Report

portland news

The City of Portland’s Public Health Division is pleased to share the inaugural Health of Portland Report (HOP). The HOP provides a wide variety of descriptive information about the health status and factors influencing Portland residents. For example, 87% of Portland residents live within a half mile walk of a park or greenspace and violent crime in Portland is lower at 279 offenses per 100,000 people compared to an average of 514 offenses across the 500 largest cities in the United States. The report provides the community with an opportunity to improve health outcomes for all Portland residents. The 52 page report will kick off a strategic planning process around how the community can address health priorities within the report.

Portland Public Health will host a series of community forums in February to present the data and initiate a comprehensive planning process with the public and partner organizations. Please check our website and follow Portland Public Health Division on Facebook for forthcoming forum dates, locations and times. A limited number of reports will be printed and an electronic version of the report will be posted to https://www.portlandmaine.gov/PublicHealth.
