Portland Youth Council Set to Begin Its Work

The City of Portland has set the membership for the Portland Youth Council, which will connect, engage, and empower Portland's diverse youth population through government and civic participation. The Youth Council consists of 13 youth who reside in Portland and are between the ages of 14 and 18. Their first meeting will be held on Friday, December 6. The Youth Council will provide teenagers with an opportunity to cultivate their leadership, advocacy, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The Youth Council will typically meet twice a month after school, and will have a devoted City of Portland staff member, Dena Libner (Assistant to the City Manager for Constituent Services),  acting in an advisory capacity. The Youth Council members will have the exciting opportunity to work with and learn from both City staff and City Council members to effectuate change surrounding areas of unique interest and concern to our city’s youth.
