Memorial Day Parade Information for Monday, May 27

There are two great events happening in Portland on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. Morning parade at 10:30 AM from Longfellow Square to Monument Square and afternoon parade at 2:00 PM in Deering Center from the Longfellow School to Evergreen Cemetery in commemoration of the fallen.

The morning parade will begin at 10:30 AM at Longfellow Square and process down Congress Street ending at Monument Square at approximately 11:00 AM. Speeches will then be made along with a wreath laying ceremony.

Traffic Alert: Congress Street from State Street to Elm Street - and side street leading onto Congress - will be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the parade, approximately 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM. Additionally, Congress Street (from Mellen Street to State Street), State Street (from Cumberland Ave. to Congress Street) and Dow Street (from Congress Street to Brackett Street) will be closed to traffic for the formation area from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. 

Later in the afternoon on Memorial Day, the Friends of Evergreen Cemetery’s Fifth Annual Memorial Day Procession and Program, a commemoration of the fallen in all US wars/conflicts, is scheduled for 2:00 PM. The Stevens Ave. parade route begins at Longfellow School and concludes at Evergreen Cemetery’s south gate near the Wilde Memorial Chapel.

Afternoon Traffic Alert: Marchers will assemble at the Longfellow School on Stevens Avenue and proceed up Stevens and end at Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery.
Both lanes of Stevens Avenue will be closed from Walton Street to Tremont Street to traffic from 1:45 PM to 2:30 PM.
