HOLIDAY TRASH & RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE The City of Portland will not collect trash and recycling on Christmas and New Year's Day. If your normal collection day is Wednesday, your trash & recycling will be collected on Saturday, December 28 and Saturday, January 4.
CHRISTMAS TREE DROP OFF & COLLECTION Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following locations during the month of January:
Cutter Street parking lot on the Eastern Prom
Douglas Street Salt Shed Area
Riverside Golf Course, North Course (9-hole), 1158 Riverside Street
Trees dropped off at any of these locations will be taken to Riverside Recycling and chipped up.
Christmas trees can also be left for curbside collection on your normal trash day during the month of January. Trees collected curbside will be co-mingled with trash and taken to ecomaine.
Please remember that wrapping paper IS recyclable, but bubble wrap and styrofoam packaging is NOT. For more holiday recycling tips, visit ecomaine.org
All weekly trash and recycling collection is subject to change due to city holidays, construction, special events, inclement weather, and natural disasters. Future updates will be posted on the News page as well on our social media channels.
You may sign up to receive city news alerts via email and text message on our Stay Connected page.
Exceptions to the curbside collection schedule:
Residents who have collection scheduled on the Thanksgiving holiday (Thursday and Friday), will have NO COLLECTION that week.
Residents who have collection regularly scheduled on Christmas Day and New Year's Day should check back yearly, as the day of week in which the holiday falls may change your collection day.
