2020 Paving Projects
This page lists the paving projects on arterial roadways anticipated to take place in calendar year 2020. Road users should expect the roadway surface to be grooved or uneven until paving is completed. Travelers should expect lane closures and delays for the duration of the work. Where sidewalk and curb ramp work is proposed, pedestrian detours should be expected.

Presumpscot Street to Veranda Street
The project consists of milling the top layer of pavement, miscellaneous curb reset, ADA upgrades at ramps, resurfacing the road, and re-striping the road. To take advantage of current circumstances and low traffic volumes, we anticipate this work to start in early May 2020 and be complete by July 2020.
Marginal Way – MPI Paving Project
Forest Avenue to Franklin Street
The project consists of milling the top layer of pavement, new curb installation at intersections, ADA upgrades at ramps, miscellaneous sidewalk and esplanade work, signal upgrades at Elm Street, resurfacing the road, and re-striping the road. We anticipate this work to start in early June 2020 and have the paving and sidewalk work completed by the end of the year with some signal work extending into 2021.
Taft Avenue to Westbrook Line
The scope of this repaving and pedestrian improvements project includes a milling (removing) the existing pavement surface and installing a new asphalt pavement overlay along Brighton Avenue from the City of Westbrook line to Taft Avenue. Curb ramps and sidewalk segments within the project limits will be reconstructed to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The existing center medians will be removed and the roadway will be restriped to provide bike lanes. The configuration and number of travel lanes and turn lanes will not be changed. In coordination with METRO, two bus stop pads for bus shelters will be constructed near City Hospital Drive. Pedestrian signal improvements are also proposed at City Hospital Drive and Riverside Drive intersections. We anticipate this work to start in June 2020 and be completed by the end of the year.
