A native Mainer, Councilor Belinda Ray grew up in Newcastle, attended UMaine in Orono, and moved to the Portland area in 1992. She has lived in the East Bayside neighborhood of Portland since 2004, and in 2007, she helped to found the East Bayside Neighborhood Organization (EBNO). For EBNO, Belinda served sequentially as Vice President, President, and finally Community Organizer before being elected to the City Council in 2015.
Ray is a freelance writer and editor who has written 24 books for young readers. Additionally, she teaches writing and literature classes to students ages 10 and up and provides bookkeeping and business management services to a local construction company.
