Effective July 1, 2019, the City of Portland minimum wage will be $11.11 per hour, and a direct wage to tipped workers will be at least $5.50 per hour. This wage is calculated by adding the December 2018 CPI-U (1.9%) to the most recent City of Portland minimum wage ($10.90) for a total of $11.11.
Effective January 1, 2019, the State of Maine minimum wage ($11.00 per hour) is higher than the City of Portland minimum wage ($10.90 per hour), and a direct wage to tipped workers is at least $5.50 per hour. As required by the City of Portland Minimum Wage Ordinance, whenever the State's minimum wage is equal to or higher than the City's minimum wage, employers must pay their employees the State minimum wage.
